Success story

ZICKWOLFF processes orders with Sage and EDI

A high order volume and customers’ demand for electronic data interchange led ZICKWOLFF to EDI. The wholesaler added a cloud solution to its Sage system for automated exchange with customers and suppliers across Europe.

  • Add EDI to Sage
  • Less manual order entry
  • Connect customers and suppliers digitally

Wholesale with a history

From Saarbrücken to customers all over Europe

Otto Zickwolff GmbH was founded in 1922 as a supplier to the Saarland mining industry. The family business grew into a wholesaler for industry, plant engineering, trades and DIY stores. Its range of services includes project equipment, supplies for everyday needs, C-parts management and express deliveries.

  • Company Otto Zickwolff GmbH.
  • Location Saarbrücken, Germany.
  • Industry Wholesale for industry and trades.
  • ERP system Sage with an additional EDI connection.

Customer requirements as the trigger

Many orders need a direct data flow

For ZICKWOLFF, customer demand was the deciding factor for EDI. At the same time, the large number of orders called for faster data exchange. The goal was a solution that would ease the team’s data entry workload and simplify collaboration with customers and suppliers.

ZICKWOLFF chose EDI to connect electronic data interchange with the Sage system it already used. The cloud solution was implemented as an add-on to the ERP. Flexible adaptation to the wholesaler’s requirements was another reason for the choice.

Relief in order processing

Less data entry, faster responses

With electronic exchange, ZICKWOLFF simplifies processes from order receipt to order confirmation. Employees have to enter less data manually, which lowers the risk of input errors. At the same time, the company can respond to its customers faster. A monitor makes the transactions traceable and provides an overview of the document exchange with suppliers.

  • “We have become much more efficient at processing our many orders.”

How ZICKWOLFF uses EDI

From data format to the next partner

The connection adds electronic exchange with customers and suppliers to Sage. Four aspects of the implementation show how different wholesale requirements can be brought together.

Exchange common formats

The customer story names EDIFACT, VDA, SAP IDoc, XML and CSV. This lets ZICKWOLFF transfer business data to its partners in different formats.

Process orders more easily

EDI simplifies the path from order receipt to order confirmation. Importing data digitally takes the load off the team when handling the high order volume.

Keep track of transactions

The exchanged transactions can be viewed in a monitor. This keeps the document exchange between ZICKWOLFF and its suppliers traceable.

Include new partners

More customers and suppliers can be connected to the existing EDI solution. In the project described, flexible adjustments also supported the company’s changes and growth.
