Is JTL's store software legally compliant?
Yes, JTL-Shop 5 is legally compliant from the start. Even in its basic technical setup, you can implement the most important legal requirements for online retail. The legal compliance of the store system has been tested and officially certified by both IT-Recht Kanzlei and Händlerbund.
Is the online store barrier-free - and how does the store software help to implement the requirements of the Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG)?
Yes, since JTL-Shop 5.5, the integrated NOVA template provides a technical foundation for accessible eCommerce. Key features such as keyboard navigation, semantic HTML structure, ARIA roles and screen reader compatibility are built into the system and support you in creating legally compliant content. Please note: Actual accessibility also depends on the themes and plugins you use, as well as how you maintain your content. Check your shop regularly (e.g. contrast ratios and focus order) to ensure it remains user-friendly and complies with the requirements of the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), which has been in force since 28 June 2025.
